A NEW restaurant has opened serving the best of local produce.

The Station Hotel, Pickering, has opened a new steakhouse restaurant located at the back of the hotel.

Opening last night (July 1), the Station Steakhouse celebrates the best of local dishes with a varied menu, which includes steakhouse classics such as mixed grills, surf and turfs, along with tomahawk steaks and sharing platters.

There are also vegetarian options such as roasted vegetable lasagne and a creamy garlic mushroom dish.

The 32 cover restaurant has been opened by the property’s landlords, Clare and Arron Sykes, both from Malton, who took over the business six weeks ago.

Since taking over the hotel, the husband-and-wife team have been busy renovating the site, with the new steakhouse being the latest addition to the hotel’s existing bar.

The Steakhouse’s menu has been created by Arron, who is also the restaurant's head chef.

Arron, 35, said the dishes are a mix of his favourites from across his cooking career.

After training as a chef in Hartlepool, Arron said he has worked in numerous kitchens across the country and is “excited to bring something different” to Pickering with his new steakhouse menu.

Arron explained that, for him, the menu is “mainly about the steaks.”

He recommended diners to choose a tomahawk steak with diane or peppercorn sauce and the chilli and garlic king prawns.

Clare, 43, said she prefers the less ‘meaty’ dishes, so recommended the grilled chicken.

As time goes on with the Steakhouse, Arron said he is keen to add some specials to the menu for diners to enjoy.

Ahead of their fully booked opening night, Clare said: “I’m feeling really good.”

Clare, previously a beautician, decided to move into the hospitality industry while she was unable to work during Covid.

She said that opening a restaurant has always been one of her husband Arron’s goals.

The Station Hotel is run by an 8-person team who operate the Steakhouse and adjoining bar which is equipped with televisions and a pool table.

Clare and Arron said the next plans for the renovation are a casual dining area in the bar equipped with a new menu, and a revamp of the hotel’s existing five rooms.

They explained that their goal is for the Station Hotel to serve as a hub in the community where locals can come and enjoy it’s mix of offerings.

The pair have already started planning future events at the hotel such as a music festival in late August to raise money for mental health charity Mind.

The Steakhouse restaurant is open Monday-Saturday from 5pm with the last booking at 8pm.

On Sundays the restaurant is used to host a Sunday lunch served via the hotel's bar.

The Steakhouse restaurant are offering diners 20 per cent off the end food bill per table for their first month of opening.
