AN ART exhibition will be held to raise funds for a life threatening disease.

The Rotary Club of Pickering District are holding an art exhibition at Memorial Hall, Pickering, from July 9-17 in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Charity (MND).

MND works to support those living with motor neurone disease.

Motor neurone disease is a life-threatening disease that affects the nerves within the brain and spinal cord systems and, over time, also other senses such as hearing and sight.

At the event artwork will be on display and available to purchase from local artists of all abilities from amateur to professional.

There will also be a raffle to win a print of leopard, with tickets available for £1.

All proceeds raised from sales of the artwork and the raffle will go towards the MND charity.

The event has been organised by Derek Thrippleton, from the Pickering Rotary Club.

Derek is an artist, specialising in producing artwork of wildlife.

He also does commission artwork of pets, some of which will also be on display at the event.

Some of Derek’s work will be on display and available to purchase on the day.

There will also be artwork available by local artists Angie McCall, Colin Culley, Peter Davidson, and Gillian Fletcher.

Derek said that the Rotary Club work regularly with MND and chose the charity as one of their members suffers from the disease.

He said: “One of our most active members has been stricken down by the disease.

“The disease gets worse and worse as time goes on.”

The Rotary Club have organised other fundraising events for MND such as a golfing day on June 29.

Derek explained that the club wish to raise the public's awareness of the disease so that more can be done to treat it.
