This year's fundraising total for Christian Aid Week has been announced.

The final total for Christian Aid Week from Malton, Old Malton & Norton together with 12 of the surrounding Ryedale villages was £5,463 and the amount of Gift Aid provided a further £760 bringing the total for this year to £6,623.

Co-ordinator Alison Hardwick, said: "It was raised mainly through the delivery only envelopes but also included £500 raised from the sale of cakes by the organiser for the collection in Norton.

"I am hugely grateful to all who took part once again in this very important week in the Church calendar. Christian Aid was set up in the aftermath of the Second World War to provide Aid for the victims of that conflict in Europe. Later as the British Colonies became Independent the focus of its work changed to provide support through the churches in these newly developing countries, a partnerships which continue to this day."
