The 1st June 2022 marked the one year anniversary of Ryedale’s newest, independent farm veterinary practice opening its doors.
What a year we have had!
On top of our routine fertility work, flock and herd health planning we have been kept busy this spring with calvings and lambings. Our vets were itching to start using our sheep caesarean table, and they were certainly not disappointed! We have a purpose-built room which allows us to safely hospitalise small ruminants that require more intensive medical treatment or surgery.
Our director Helen has been out bull fertility testing to make sure bulls are fit for their upcoming breeding seasons. Nancy, our registered veterinary nurse (RVN) has also been out on farms blood sampling sheep and cattle for disease surveillance and high health accreditation schemes. After a very successful first year, our Farm-SQP Becky, is managing the return of our ‘while-you-wait’ parasite clinic throughout the grazing season. Once faecal egg counts have been performed, Becky can advise on appropriate worming protocols tailored specifically to your flock.
We like to take a pro-active approach to farm animal health. Our Flock Health and Beef Suckler Clubs have proved popular, providing tailored advice to support the health, productivity, and profitability of individual farms. Calf club is now well underway, aiming to improve the lifetime performance and productivity of replacement animals.
We have run focus discussion groups for dairy, beef and sheep clients to enhance education, supported by topical newsletters produced quarterly for each system. These meetings allow for anonymous benchmarking between members, as well as seeing how we compare to national figures and provide a fantastic opportunity for knowledge sharing between members.
We are passionate about providing a valued service to our community and are so proud to be part of one of the very few remaining, independent farm only vet practices.
