MALTON'S mobile Covid testing unit is set to close.

The site, located in Wentworth Street car park, will be officially decommissioned between June 21-23, 2022.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has confirmed that all equipment will be removed from the unit over the three days, and will then return as a car park operated by Ryedale District Council.

There will still be access to the main car park while work takes place at the top deck.

Ryedale District Council is reassuring residents that the site will continue to have 24-hour security while the decommissioning process takes place.

All nearby residents have received a letter informing them of the changes being made.

Phillip Spurr, director of place and resources for Ryedale District Council said: “This is a great milestone for Ryedale residents and the next step that demonstrates the government’s focus on learning to live with Covid.

“The virus hasn’t gone away and we’d encourage everyone to familiarise themselves with the government’s living with Covid response.

“We’d also like to thank everyone involved in the testing process that took place at the site during the pandemic.

"We’ll be forever grateful to those involved in protecting Ryedale communities."
