Hat causes flat fire in Scarborough
FIREFIGHTERS were called in after smells of smoke in flats last night.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said their crews were called out at 7.19pm last night (May 30) to Scarborough.
Crews were called to Esplanade after a report of a smell of smoke within a block of flats.
A service spokesman said: "On arrival crews found this to be a hat that had been accidentally placed on a lamp.
"When the lamp was switched on this set fire to the hat. Crews extinguished and ventilated the property."
