The Yorkshire Hack for Macmillan Cancer Support has returned for a second year following an successful inaugural event.

Katrina Lane, Chair of Macmillan’s York Fundraising Committee, is encouraging equestrians to ride out for Macmillan Cancer Support over the Easter Weekend.

Katrina, who lives in Appleton Le Moors, is one of the organisers.

She said: “We were overwhelmed by the success of last year’s event, we raised over £3,800 and had a great time doing it, the sense of camaraderie was fantastic - we want to encourage as many people as possible to take part this year.

“Cancer hasn’t gone away during the pandemic, in fact things have got a lot worse for people living with cancer, I’ve been involved with Macmillan for over 10 years and there’s never been a worse time to be diagnosed with cancer, as people are feeling enormous amounts of anxiety and faced with ongoing uncertainty.

“The Yorkshire Hack is a bit of fun, but for an important cause, we want everyone in Yorkshire to have access to the fabulous support that Macmillan provides.”

Over the Easter weekend you can help raise much needed funds by organising your own three, eight or 15-mile hack in aid of Macmillan. Every rider who raises at least £25 will receive a special 2022 Macmillan Yorkshire Hack rosette, and the rider in each category who raises the most sponsorship by midnight on 30th April will win a special prize.

There are currently 179,000 people living with cancer across Yorkshire, recent Macmillan analysis also suggests tens of thousands of people across the UK are missing a cancer diagnosis they would otherwise have received, because of the impact of the pandemic.

Laura Holohan is the Macmillan Fundraising Manager, she said:“At Macmillan we’re continuing to do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer, but without fundraising we can’t support everyone who needs us.

“We want to thank the Macmillan York Fundraising Committee for showing creativity and determination to raise vital funds for us after the success of last year’s Yorkshire Hack.

“We’re delighted that every donation received will stay in the region and give vital support to those who need it.”

If you’re unable to ride out over Easter weekend Macmillan’s York Fundraising Committee are encouraging people to pick their own date or make a donation to the Macmillan Yorkshire Hack 2022 (https://macmillan-org.enthuse.com/cf/yorkshirehack2022)
