Nowadays, with high streets in decline, more businesses are occupying the online marketplace – and Libby Denney from Malton has done just that.

Originally from York, Libby moved to Malton when she was 18 with her now husband, Shane, and there is one thing she noticed about her new home – a limited shopping experience.

Libby said: “I’ve found that there’s a lack of availability in Malton for certain items for people to purchase causing them a journey to York.”

This spurred Libby on to set up her own business, offering her customers what she couldn’t find on Malton’s high street.

Libbys was born and became a limited company on January 13 selling clothing, including plus sizes, homeware and even pet accessories.

Libby runs the company by herself through Facebook and she says she had a lot of support from the local community to get up and running.

She said: “I run it on my own but a lot of the community get involved with delivering orders, helping with stock and sharing posts on social media. We are launching a website, which will be active in four weeks.”

Libby loves being a business owner and says her favourite part is making her customers happy.

She is loyal to her supportive community and repays the favour by providing a money saving scheme.

“The best thing about being a business owner is making all my customers happy and being able to help them with much more than just buying items. I offer a shop and save so people can save with me to spend at Christmas to help.”

She added: “The support I receive from the community is astronomical, I aim to be the people’s store. There’s nothing I dislike about being a business owner it just takes hard work and determination to build it up from scratch.”

This is an exciting time for Libby as her business continues to flourish and now she is making plans for her own spot on the high street.

“I run this from my home at the moment but as the business is expanding rapidly, we will be looking into a premises in the coming months. I set it up to help the community and keep trade local, I supply and buy locally in Malton and surrounding areas, I always try to promote local business on my social media platform.”

Libby has built a strong connection with customers and businesses alike across Malton and her growth is testament to that.

“I love being local as there’s a huge community of business owners in Malton that support each other. The Beauty Shed based in Malton is a huge support of us. I use all local shops for groceries and try and support them when I can.”

Libbys ships its products nationwide and hopes to keep expanding.

Libby added: “The business has taken off very well and quickly and I’m so grateful of the support.”
