There are plenty of events taking place across Ryedale and North Yorkshire this February as half term approaches.

Whitby Abbey will be hosting a family outdoor explorer quest this February. There will be activities inspired by soldiers, Victorian’s and medieval monks.

The entertainment, which has been organised by English Heritage, is part of a full schedule of activities this half term.

Half Term Explorer Quest runs from February 19 to February 27 from 10am to 4pm.

Helmsley Arts Centre is hosting half term events this February.

There is a Dark Skies Workshop on February 24, which includes art activities inspired by the North York Moors National Park Dark Skies Festival.

The workshop is for children aged between 5 and 12 and they will be joined by artist, Tabitha Groove.

There are three workshops: 10am to midday, 12.30pm to 2.30pm and 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Tickets cost £5 per workshop.

The hit, new Disney film Encanto will also be shown at Helmsley Arts Centre. The story of the Madrigal family will play on February 23 at 2.30pm.

Scarborough Museums Trust is offering family activities at two venues this half term.

At Scarborough Art Gallery, there will be a Sand Art Lab where you can take part in a sand workshop. This is inspired by Emma Gibson, whose Quicksand sculptures are on display at the gallery.

This will take place on February 23 between 10am and 1pm then 2pm to 4pm.

At the Rotunda Museum, there will be Roman themed workshops where you can imagine these historic times.

There will be a class to create your own mosaics and imagine how Scarborough’s own Roman villa might have been decorated – Thursday, February 24 from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm.

Scarborough’s best-selling author Saviour Pirotta, writer of historical fiction for young people, will share Roman-inspired stories in the Rotunda on Thursday, February 24 at 10.15am, 11.15am, 1.15pm and 2.15pm.
