POLICE are appealing for information following reports of teenagers trespassing in the grounds of Pickering Castle.

A spokesperson said: "Pickering Castle is a local land mark treasured by all. North Yorkshire Police have been informed that a number of youths and young adults are entering Pickering Castle outside of business hours. We are concerned for the safety of those trespassing who enter by climbing the ruined walls.

"Trespassing is a civil offence however, if damage is caused within the Castle grounds this is a criminal offence and offenders may be arrested and prosecuted. If you see anyone climbing the walls to enter the grounds, please phone 101."

Last month the main door to Pickering Castle was damaged after vandals carved obscenities into the wooden door at the entrance to the castle.
