FIREFIGHTERS tackled a garden shed fire sparked by a BBQ last night.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service say a crew from Malton attended the incident on Newbiggin, in Malton, at around 6.26pm.

A spokesperson said: “The fire was caused by a BBQ that had been left close to a compost heap causing it to ignite and then spreading to shed.

“This caused 75 percent fire damage to the shed and its contents.

“Crews extinguished the fire and dampened down the area and gave advice. Crews used two breathing apparatus sets and two hose reels.”
