Kirkbymoorside Bowling Club, along with Helmsley and Hutton le Hole, are hosting an open day over the May bank holiday weekend.

Bowling Club is holding the event on Saturday, May 29 from 1.30pm to 5pm as part of The Big Bowls Weekend, which is promoted by Bowls England.

“Bowls is an accessible sport open to people of all backgrounds and experiences, who want to have a fun time by having a go at a new sport and meeting new people young and old alike,” said Alec Young, a member of Kirkbymoorside Bowling Club.

“Older people and those with disabilities or health conditions find bowls can be vitalizing. It delivers significant health benefits and can act as an essential social lifeline.

“Bowls is highly sociable providing a level playing field across all ages and genders. Competition amongst friends and family is authentic and clubs can feel like a home away from home.

“Here at Kirkbymoorside League Bowling is playing on three nights and one afternoon a week. For those of you with the extra competitive streak, you may enter county and national competitions or even have the chance to represent you club at county level.

“Playing bowls is a simple skill which takes a minute to learn and a lifetime to master, so why not come along and give it a go.”
