A MEMBER of Helmsley Young Farmers’ Club has become the new chairman of the county’s YFC movement.

Ed Bentley, 29, comes from a farming family with his uncle still a tenant sheep farmer in Farndale on the farm where Ed’s father and family grew up.

Ed has been a member of Helmsley YFC since he was about 13 years old and has taken over as chairman from Keighley dairy farmer Georgina Fort. His vice chair will be Tim Weatherhead, of Knaresborough YFC.

“As county chair, my key focus and role as the head of such a fantastic organisation will be to help clubs bounce back and get started again after the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Ed.

"Restarting is going to be a challenge in the next few months, but one I’m up for.

“In my role as chairman of the Yorkshire Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs I really want us to support clubs in this crucial restart stage. We need to take opportunities when we can, and run with it. “County Officers, including myself, are only a phone call or email away. The more we collaborate, work together, and share ideas, the stronger we will all become. We are all committed in supporting and kick-starting clubs as restrictions are lifted.

“I very much look forward to the forthcoming year as county chairman and getting out to see as many members as possible.”
