A GROUP of golfers have raised £1,150 for Ryedale Community Transport (RCT).
Members of Malton and Norton Golf Club’s Ladies’ Section raised the funds through a series of event throughout last year.
Karen Pickup, ladies’ captain 2020, chose RCT as her charity before lockdown struck.
She said: “Normally we have a number of golfing events throughout the year as well as collections, raffles etc for the ladies’ captain’s chosen charity but for obvious reasons we weren’t able to do so.”
Karen added: “Nevertheless, I am delighted that the Malton and Norton Golf Club’s Ladies’ section were so generous and we were able to present RCT with a cheque for £1,150.”
Unfortunately, Karen couldn’t attend the cheque presentation so the incoming ladies captain, Barbara Machin, did the honours.
RCT, formerly known as Ryecat, provides affordable, rural transport solutions for people throughout this area.
Their latest initiative is to encourage people who have been isolating for the last 12 months to take a short minibus journey, perhaps with a walk and light refreshments, to encourage them back into the community if they are feeling particularly nervous about venturing out.
If you know someone who would benefit from this initiative and would like more information please get in touch with Ryedale CT through their website https://www.ryedalect.org/contact/ or phone 01653 699059.
During 2021 the new ladies captain, Barbara, will be raising money for two small, independent charities - Acorn Community Care, based in Norton, and York Against Cancer.
Barbara drove off the first tee to celebrate the start of her year. Members guessed how far she will drive the ball and Jane Dwyer guessed correctly with 115 yards.
Altogether 60 members took part in the competition and the results were: Winners: 1st Clare Nutt, Sue Mason, Kay Hornby, Jane Dwyer 39 points 2nd Emma Brown, Kate Miller, Alison Turner, Wendy Chapman 38 points (countback) 3rd Jean Seager, Judith Sanderson, Karen Kirby, Jane Duggleby 38 points (countback) 4th Irene Sellers, Sue Parkin, Judy Butler, Carol Simpson 38 points (countback).
