A long-serving soap star has started a chorus of praise for York as the city's tourist industry starts to recover from the pandemic.
On the first Bank Holiday weekend since the lockdown eased, Emmerdale's Mark Charnock visited the city and made his views very clear on social media.
His tweet was echoed by other people from different parts of the country, some of them highlighting particular attractions in York.
The man who has played Marlon Dingle for 25 years tweeted:
I went to York today and even though I’ve been many times before I’ve totally fallen in love with it and I don’t live there and I want to live there and somebody do something.

Shortly afterwards he replied to one of his followers:
Yep yep yep! Every corner of York is lovely. One of these days...! Xx

A northerner in exile tweeted:
Beautiful place. I'm from 'up north' but now live a bit further south. York is the most perfect middle ground to meet up with my parents (especially at the moment when I'm not allowed to go 'home' and stay). York parks are a god send.

Several York residents and businesses have warmly supported Mark's views, describing why they moved to the city or why they like it, such as:
Moved here 15 years ago when we bought a business. Would have moved anywhere in UK for the right business and can’t believe how lucky we are it was in York! Best. Move. Ever! Do it!!!

One added a note of caution about stag and hen parties.
