A POST office is going to move into a new premise as originally planned, it has been decided following a public consultation.

Kirkbymoorside Post Office is officially moving its premise from 25 Market Place to 1 High Market Place – the vacant premises previously occupied by Something Special.

The decision comes after a public consultation on the matter which was first announced in February. The consultation received more than 111 responses from customers and local representatives.

According to Post Office, the postmaster’s lease was due to expire and the company identified an opportunity to move the Kirkbymoorside Post Office branch.

The branch is now closed until the grand reopening at 1 High Street Market Place on Friday, April 30 at 9am.

Kenny Lamont, Post Office network provisions manager, said the move means Kirkbymoorside customers will benefit from extended opening hours and ensure the branch is commercially viable in the future.

“We can confirm that following a period of local public consultation and review, we have made the decision to proceed with the move of the Post Office into 1 High Market Place in Kirkbymoorside,” he said.

“I would like to thank everyone who took the time to let us have their comments and provide information.

“All the feedback we received helped us to better understand the views of customers and their representatives and this was considered along with all other relevant factors, in making our decision.”

Kirkbymoorside Post Office will be open Monday and Wednesday: 8.30am to 5.30pm, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 9am to 5.30pm and Saturday: 9am to 1.30pm.

This will mark the end to lunchtime closing.

Mr Lamont added: “After careful consideration of the feedback received, we remain confident that the layout and location of the new branch will continue to meet customer needs and deliver an excellent service, whilst securing the long-term viability of Post Office services in the local community.

“If there are any unforeseen schedule changes which mean these dates change, posters will be displayed in branch to let customers know.”
