FOOD and hospitality experts have ranked a Ryedale gastropub among the 50 best in the UK.

The Star Inn at Harome, owned by Andrew Pern is officially the runner up in the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs 2021 – and the top gastropub in the north.

In 2017, the pub made it to the top of the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs list for the third time in history.

The review said: “A thatched roof, a cosy interior adorned with historical bits and bobs, and a landlord who knows the name of everyone in the village.

“Star Inn chef-patron Andrew Pern is something of a local celebrity, not least because he’s had his stellar pub for more than 20 years and owns several other sites across the north-east of England.

“The Star’s name has become synonymous across the country with a dedication to fine produce and playful but refined cooking.

“No foams or airs (neither edible nor the put-on kind) will emerge from the Star’s kitchen. Only the best Yorkshire produce, cooked to perfection.”

Andrew says coming runner up in the UK and top place in the north of England is a great accomplishment for The Star Inn at Harome.

“Celebrating 25 years at The Star Inn at Harome is a great accomplishment in itself,” he said.

“We have never been out of the top five in the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs list in all those years, even winning it three times previously.

“It’s always a great team effort here, and I would like to thank every member of staff for all they do to make us one of the best gastropubs in the UK.”

The Star Inn at Harome has reopened their outdoor garden service seven days a week from April 12, in line with the Government’s roadmap. The indoor restaurant will be open from May 17.

“Reopening after the lockdown yet again is always an apprehensive time,” added Andrew

“We don’t know how many guests will turn up, especially with the weather being the main factor with outside dining.

“We will have an outdoor bar, full menu, tasting menu and snacks available too.

“The now famous drinking field will come into its own once the sun shines again, so please come and support us and the rest of the hospitality industry, it’s been a bit of a quiet year.”
