A FREE give-away is taking place next week to mark World Book Night.

World Book Night is the annual celebration of books and reading that brings people from all backgrounds together for one reason – to inspire others to read more.

Presented by The Reading Agency, in partnership with Specsavers, 2021 is the 10th anniversary of this charitable event and showcases a collection of feel-good “Books to Make You Smile”.

One of the selected titles is Ask a Footballer by James Milner, where he shares insights into what it's like being a professional footballer, across his different experiences with Newcastle, Aston Villa, Manchester City and now Liverpool. Plus, the highs, and lows, of playing for England.

Literary Consultant Sarah Tyson from Books Up North has been chosen to be a World Book Night donor, which means that she has 160 copies of this book to give-away to readers in the Ryedale community for free.

She has partnered with Brooklyn Junior Football Club, for the book give-away which will be taking place in Ryedale on Thursday, April 22, at Malton Community Sports Centre.

Sarah said “This is not an exclusive opportunity for Brooklyn members, the offer is there for anyone can come and collect a book.

“The community is fortunate to have a friendly grass-roots club on its doorstep that is committed to providing opportunities for boys and girls to enjoy playing football at every level, including the chance for the more committed players to play in Junior Premier League.

"As a parent of three young footballers, I owe the volunteers who coach and manage the teams a lot.”

Brooklyn Club Chairman, Jamie Hopwood said: "Thank you to Sarah for all her hard work in bringing World Book Night to Brooklyn FC. We are delighted to be a part of this great event."

Sarah who will be in the car park of Malton Sports Centre 6pm to 9pm. Copies will be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis (one copy per household).
