SNOW had lead to difficult driving conditions across higher routes today.

Reports were made that traffic was gridlocked at the Hole of Horcum on A169 between Whitby and Pickering.

Police also asked motorists to avoid Saltersgate Bank until gritters could get there as a number of vehicles had become stuck.

Snow has also fallen on the coast at Robin Hood's Bay.

North Yorkshire Weather said overnight temperatures had dropped to -8.2c.

" Impressive cold for mid winter, never mind early April," they added.

Meanwhile, the A171 Whitby to Scarborough road was blocked in both directions for three hours following a two-vehicle collision at Pond Hill at 11.10am today (Saturday 10 April).

One of the cars, a grey Hyundai i30, ended up on its roof. The occupants of the Hyundai or the red Citroen C1 were not seriously injured.

The road was closed while the emergency services work at the scene and the vehicles are recovered.

But in an update, police tweeted that gritters were en route to the area and traffic could proceed with care.

Meanwhile, the A171 Whitby to Scarborough road has also been blocked in both directions following a minor two-vehicle collision at Pond Hill, with motorists urged to avoid the area until further notice.
