Works criticised as 'bodged up'

Over the last week highways contractors from North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) have been repairing sections of Langton Road with temporary road closures in place.

However, the work has been criticised by many people who feel the road should have been completely resurfaced.

Local resident Mark Wilson, said:"The work done is an absolute disgrace and whoever gave this order should be ashamed of themselves and held accountable for wasting public money on a job that will need doing again properly in a year or two. Very poor management skills."

Fellow resident Jane Cass said it was like a patchwork quilt.

"The end of the Chase has a strip, about two inches wide on the kerb edge, that they’ve completely missed,heaven knows why.

"They’ve patched in places and dug the road up in others, it’s diabolical. Why use a South Yorkshire firm to do a NYCC job? Beggars belief, no wonder they start at 9.30 and finish at 15.30, are we paying for their travel time?

It’s frustrating that they’ve had the time to do a good job but bodged it up again."

Sam Alasfar, said: "It’s better than it was, but looks very amateurish work. they should have done it all. still lots of uneven road. Remember we are in the 21st century,

Richard Marr, NYCC Highways Area Manager, said:"The work on Langton Road is a patching scheme on the worst areas prior to surface dressing treatment at a later date. The works are being undertaken by our contractor Ringway and we do not influence the choice of sub-contractor. In June we will see the introduction of Teckal company NY Highways to give greater flexibility in highway maintenance."
