THE Post Office is proposing to relocate its Kirkbymoorside branch.

Kirkbymoorside Post Office is planning to move its present premises from 25 Market Place to 1 High Market Place - the now-vacant premises previously occupied by Something Special.

Kenny Lamont, Post Office network provision manager, said: “We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs.

“Unfortunately, the postmaster’s lease for the current premises is due to expire.

“Subsequently, in order to secure a Post Office service to our customers in the local area, our partner has identified an opportunity in a property nearby and plans to move the Post Office branch into these premises.

“The proposed premises, which is currently empty, will undergo a refurbishment to incorporate Kirkbymoorside Post Office.

“Working with the postmaster, we’d adapt the current store layout, fixtures and fittings to accommodate the Post Office.

“It will be in a dedicated area of the store with two screened serving positions. A wide range of Post Office products and services will continue to be available.”

The proposed new Post Office would be open Monday to Friday: 9am to 5.30pm, Saturday: 9am to 1.30pm and mark an end to lunchtime closing.

“We’re carrying out a local public consultation and we’d welcome your views on the proposal,” added Mr Lamont.

“We welcome feedback and comments that can help inform our plans, particularly on how we can make customer’s life easier, accessibility and community issues.

“We are committed to engaging with and supporting our customers and their representatives as we make changes to the Post Office network.”

The consultation will close on March 30.
