A KIRKBYMOORSIDE woman is raising money for a project close to her heart.

Charlotte Frost is completing a sponsored Couch to 5K in aid of Kirkby Community Fridge, despite suffering from spinal problems.

In light of increased levels of food insecurity due to the pandemic, Kirkby Community Fridge has saved more than two tonnes of food waste from reaching landfill sites in two months.

In order to support its fridge, Kirkby Community Fridge relies on fundraising. So far, Charlotte has raised more than £300.

“Some people said how the community fridge has saved their bacon,” said Charlotte, who is chair of Kirkby Community Fridge.

“The situation is that bad. People have less money, and it is super important to make sure everyone is eating.

“As a group, we have saved over two tonnes of food going into the skip in two months, which shows the importance of this fridge in Kirkbymoorside.

“I am disabled with my spine, which has caused nerve damage and arthritis. I cannot do much, but if we do not find regular donations to keep the community fridge running, we will need to close.

“I am giving myself one month to complete this challenge, as I need to build up my strength. My new-born girl, Mila, is joining me too.

“We pay out a lot of money monthly to keep this running, so please donate if you can.”

Charlotte is also holding a fundraising raffle in aid of Kirkby Community Fridge.

Prizes include a luxury food hamper, a nail voucher, afternoon tea for two, craft sets, toys and two Mother’s Day hampers.

The raffle will be drawn on March 10 (Wednesday) at 7.30pm.

"Prizes have been donated by volunteers, myself, businesses and people from Kirkbymoorside," added Charlotte.

"Raffle tickets are £1 each and we need your name to put in the draw.

"How many you buy will be how many times your name goes in the bucket, for example, £5 will be five names.

"The Kirkby Community Fridge serves the community well, especially during the pandemic with increased redundancies and furlough.

“Please donate whatever you can towards such an amazing cause.”

Kirkby Community Fridge is open to the public every Wednesday, from 10am to noon, or until the food runs out.
