A COMMUNITY group is appealing for donations following the cancellation of fundraisers.

Members of Kirkbymoorside in Bloom say weathering another financial ‘stormy season’ will not be easy due to the potential cancellation of the Open Garden 2021, which is their main fundraiser.

The committee decided to cancel the Open Garden last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Kirkbymoorside in Bloom is now asking for donations to keep the floral arrangements in town.

“Who could possibly have imagined 12 months ago that separation, isolation and frustration would become the sad companions of so many,” said Gaynor de Barr, chair of Kirkbymoorside in Bloom.

“Prudent financial management has ensured that we have always carried a reserve to see us through a stormy season.

"Sadly, along with many other events, our popular fundraiser of Open Gardens had to be cancelled last year. At this point it is not clear when, or if, we can run the event for 2021.

"Weathering a further storm will not be easy. The business sponsorship of tubs has been another key factor in enabling us to achieve all that we do, and we are very appreciative for that.

"However, we must recognise that many smaller businesses are faced with crippling financial situations.

"As a consequence, we have replaced our annual business sponsorship request this year with an entirely voluntary contribution based on what businesses can or cannot afford.

"Whilst being mindful of the similar plight that many charities face at this time, any donation would be received with much appreciation."

Contributions can be made in cash, or cheque made payable to Treasurer, Richard Coates, of 11 Castlegate, Kirkbymoorside.
