A DOG owner has written two books to teach children about kindness and the importance of social distancing.

Amy Jane Brown, originally from Malton, wrote Arnie’s Adventures in dedication of her one-year-old cocker spaniel - who is also called Arnie.

Amy, who serves in the Royal Air Force, initially started an Instagram account to document Arnie growing up and videoing his walks for people stuck at home in lockdown.

The dog-loving writer has created the canine character to help children be more considerate and understanding people’s difference.

“During lockdown, I started an Instagram account for my Cocker Spaniel puppy and videoed his adventures,” said Amy.

“This turned into creating short stories about him and his adventures, called Arnie’s Adventures.

“After a while, I started to write them down on pen and paper with the intention of turning them into a children’s books.

“With the help of my good friends who did the illustrations, this dream became a reality.”

Amy self-published Arnie’s Adventures: Life in Lockdown in May and more recently Arnie’s Adventures: Friends in October.

For every book sold, Amy is donating 10 per cent to NHS Charities Together and Mind, which offers information and advice to people with mental health problems.

“The books have powerful messages behind them,” added Amy.

“Life in Lockdown shares the important message that we must stay at home and how when Arnie meets his friends, he must keep his distance.

“Arnie’s Adventures: Friends is all about how all his real life and Instagram friends are different but that’s okay, he will always share his ball with them.

“I’m donating 10 per cent of the profits to NHS Charities Together and Mind, which supports better mental health.”

Both Arnie’s Adventure books are avaliable from Amazon at £6.99 or @arniethecockerspaniel on Instagram.
