A CAMPAIGN has been launched to to pull together top tips from local people to help lighten up the lockdown.

Ryedale District Council (RDC) has put together a series of short videos which are being shared on it’s social media platforms and website.

Leaders from sport, the arts and the food and drink sector have filmed their top tips to help citizens exercise, learn something new, or hone their skills.

Councillor Keane Duncan, leader of RDC, said: “ Council officers have launched this campaign to help lighten things up and focus on the positives that Ryedale can offer.

“We’re delighted to see businesses and organisations get involved by sharing tips about their field of expertise.

“ So far, we’re got videos to improve cricketing skills, how to take up yoga, how to make great Yorkshire puddings and how to use performance arts to help boost your mood.”

Chantelle Dawson, Owner of the Balance Rooms in Pickering said: “Yoga is a great form of exercise to try in the lockdown.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner, or more advanced – yoga helps your body and your mind, which is much-needed during these uncertain times.

“I am happy to share my tips to help people in Ryedale get through this lockdown.”

Carolyn Strickland, Owner of the Scrumptious Deli in Kirkbymoorside added: “I am happy to get involved. We’re all in this together and if my video helps someone pass the lockdown time by getting them in the kitchen cooking, then I’m content. Food warms the soul, so it’s wonderful to support this campaign.”

Natasha Jones, Artistic Director of Helmsley Arts Centre, said: “We’ve been hit hard by both lockdowns, but we’re still here for Ryedale.

“Our video shows how people can try a bit of drama and performance to boost their mood. It’s fun to do and a great example of how performance and arts are needed now, more than ever.”

All of the videos in the ‘Lighten up the Lockdown’ campaign are shared at ryedale.gov.uk/covid-19-2020/lighten-up-the-lockdown and on the District Council’s Twitter and Facebook pages: @RyedaleDC and www.facebook.com/RyedaleDC
