POLICE are investigating reports of vehicles being used in an anti-social manner in the Thornton-le-Dale area.

Issues have been reported particular relating to the Westgate to Broadmires Lane area,

A spokesperson said: "The police have powers to deal with the anti-social use of motor vehicles on or off public roads, including the use of public roads around housing estates as illegal race-tracks, or the riding of motorcycles across public parks, village greens or the countryside without authority.

"The Police Reform Act 2002, Section 59, provides for the seizure by the police, in certain circumstances, of vehicles being used in such a manner as to cause alarm, distress or annoyance.

"The owner of a seized vehicle may claim it later, but will be liable for the resulting costs of recovery and storage of their vehicle. This will stop the nuisance at the time and act as a deterrent to further misbehaviour."

Anyone who witnesses a vehicle being used in a anti-social manner should contact the police on 101.
