POLICE have warned that someone's chances of survival would have been 'extremely slim' if they were hit by a speeding driver caught at the weekend.

Officers from North Yorkshire Police Traffic Bureau recorded a driver going at 49mph in a 30 limit in Pickering on Saturday.

They tweeted: "One driver thought it was acceptable to drive at 49mph in a 30mph zone. These limits are in place for a reason.

"If a person or child were hit by a vehicle travelling at this speed, the chances of them surviving would be extremely slim."

Further enforcement was carried out in Pickering and Helmsley on Sunday, and included one driver was recorded at 56mph in a 30 limit, officers added.
