HELMSLEY Town Council is to tell Ryedale District Council that it does not want to adopt the town’s phone kiosk.

The council had previously decided to adopt the phone box to store a defibrillator, however, shortly afterwards, it found out BT only allows modern kiosks to be used.

Two defibrillators have recently been installed, one in Carlton Road and the other in Ashdale Road. They will be inspected weekly by the town council caretaker and have been added to the council’s insurance and asset register.

Additional councillors and volunteers have also been appointed to check defibrillators after they have been removed from their cabinet or used so that the Yorkshire Ambulance Service can re-list them as available on its system. The town clerk receives a notification email if they have been removed or used and has to confirm that they are available for use again.
