A WOMAN with Parkinson’s has raised more than £1,444 for two charities.

Liz Ireland, 75, who lives in Princess Court in Malton, decided to walk 1,000 steps in memory of her friend, Judy Wright, who died from coronavirus.

Judy, who also lived in Princess Court, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s before dying in Scarborough Hospital, on May 24.

The fundraising total has been split between Ryedale Support Group for People with Parkinson’s and Parkinson’s UK.

“Liz would like to thank everyone for their support and generosity which she raised doing a sponsored walk,” said Gill Coates, who helped organise the fundraiser.

“It’s a difficult time at the moment with the coronavirus pandemic.

“Many charities are struggling; I know Parkinson’s UK have not raised half the amount needed this year.”

The Ryedale Support Group for People with Parkinson’s holds monthly meetings at Norton Trinity Methodist Church. The group arranges a guest speaker, not always Parkinson’s related, followed by tea and socialising.
