A SCHOOL year group has been told to stay at home after a positive coronavirus result.

All students in Year 10 at Malton School will be studying from home today after parent received a letter from head teacher Rob Williams on Saturday evening.

Mr Williams told parents in the letter that one student who was asked to self isolate on Thursday had now had a positive test result. This follows news that a member of staff had also tested positive.

He said in the letter: "I have sought advice and guidance from the out of hours Health Protection Team at Public Health England. They have told me that they are unable to help until 9am on Monday morning. I have taken the decision that such a delay is unreasonable and that it is important to inform you as soon as possible.

"As it is not yet possible to accurately determine which members of the year group bubble may have been in close contact with the student concerned, I am taking the decision that all Year 10 students must stay home on Monday, October 12.

"We will investigate further on Monday and we will then be able to take advice from Public Health England about any additional steps. I will write to you all again on Monday to clarify what these next steps will be."
