A SECONDARY school in Ryedale has had its first positive test for coronavirus.
Malton School sent a letter to parents yesterday confirming the case and adding that those who had been in direct contact with the individual had been notified.
The letter says: "It was inevitable that this would happen here at some point and it will happen again as we move through the academic year.
"I don't want to make light of it but by equal measure it is important that we don't over-react.
"So we will continue to handle the situation calmy, taking all reasonable and proportionate measures to ensure the health and safety of all in school as you would expect.
"Your continued support and messages of goodwill are greatly appreciated by the staff team. Thank you for them and for your understanding of the difficulties we are seeking to deal with."
