A MALTON resident has described a case of flytipping in the town as “absolutely disgraceful”.

Ryan Swain was out for a walk with his two daughters when he found a mound of burnt out tyres, along with other house and garden items, near York Road.

He said:“We took the girls for what was supposed to be a relaxing woodland walk around the plantation up York Road in Malton.

“To our horror we discovered this horrendous case of flytipping and dumping ground of items, which cannot decompose, a mound of burnt out tyres, which smell badly and are toxic, among the remnants of somebody’s house and garden.

“Also by the looks of things all the new trees that have been planted have up there have been stripped out and stolen, with the canes just left scattered on the floor.

“Some of these mounds of waste are fresh so this is clearly and ongoing situation.

“This is absolutely disgraceful that this is happening in central Malton. This area prides its self on its picturesque countryside, wildlife and walks. Something seriously has to be done about this.

“Hopefully local councillors and other members of the authorities locally will see this and something can be done about it immediately.

“It really needs the community to get behind this to bring it to a stop. I would happily help the council, street scene, authorities, Malton in Bloom and any other volunteers clear this up providing they could get something in place to make a stop to this happening in the further future.”

A spokesperson for Ryedale District Council said officers had investigated reports of flytipping on land on the south side of Castle Howard Road in Malton.

“Our officers have been to the site, collected evidence and removed all of the material. Action has been taken by Ryedale District Council and partners to secure the area, in order to prevent any repeat offending,” they said.

“There is absolutely no excuse for flytipping. It spoils our beautiful countryside and is a hazard to people and wildlife. Flytipping is irresponsible and illegal, and we have acted swiftly to deal with this incident.”
