THREE preachers are celebrating a combined 150-year of service in the community.
Ann Corner, Noel Smith and Stephen Prest were each presented a 50-year certificate in recognition of their religious preaching in Ryedale.
All three preachers were trained by Rev Barry Gent, who was a former minister at The Malton Methodist Circuit.
Rev Barry Gent joined the celebrations via Zoom from Oakham, in Rutland, along with Rev Peter Sheasby, superintendent minister at the Ryedale Methodist Circuit, and Chris Sheasby.
“Barry shared many memories of his time in Malton, which was obviously very special to him,” said Stephen Prest.
“He reflected on many of the old characters he met and who many of us remember fondly.
“Being a local preacher is a great privilege and a great responsibility, but it is also a very great challenge.
“How can we continue to proclaim the gospel message, the good news of Jesus in a way that is relevant to people today, in a culture that has changed dramatically in the past 50 years?
“We look forward to that challenge in the years ahead.”
