NORTON College has appointed a new head teacher.

Tim Johnson will be joining the school from York’s Fulford School, where he is currently the deputy head teacher. Mr Johnson is expected to join Norton College full-time in January and will be spending time with staff, pupils and parents during the autumn term.

Until Mr Johnson can join full-time governors have appointed Peter Whelan, an experienced school leader, to work alongside Mr Johnson and the senior leadership team over the next term.

Mr Johnson said: “I am enormously privileged to be taking up the post of head teacher at Norton College. I am looking forward to working with students, staff and parents to build upon the strong foundations which are already in place in leading the college to an exciting and successful future.”

Dr Simon Carson, who has been interim head teacher since last September, will be moving on to new opportunities in education.

A spokesperson for Norton College said: “Governors, parents, staff and students thank him for his 30-plus years of dedication to the Norton community.”
