A HUSBAND and wife have launched a new business making artisan pasta.

Kathryn and Tom Bumby, from Malton, established the Yorkshire Pasta Company in May after the UK went into lockdown.

The eco-friendly pasta is stocked in more than 90 high-profile retailers, including Lishmans of Ilkley, Fodder and Keelham Hall Farm Shop.

“We came up with the idea of the Yorkshire Pasta Company on a walking holiday with family in the Lake District,” said Kathryn.

“The altitude at the top of Catbells must have gone to our heads because our idea of locally-sourced, eco-friendly and sustainable pasta was born.”

Kathryn, who studied nutrition at the University of Northumbria, has more than 10 years of food service and manufacturing experience, including at the government’s Food and Environment Research Laboratories (FERA) and more recently Nestle.

The pasta is made in small batches using locally-milled wheat flour. The couple use recyclable packaging, including metal fastening designed by themselves, to avoid using plastic or solvent glues to seal.

The Yorkshire Pasta Company headquarters operate on solar power, collected onsite and any food waste is repurposed to animal feed.

“We are blown away by the retailers’ support over the past few months,” said Kathryn.

“We are looking forward to rolling out the pasta to the rest of the UK through our site.”
