SELBY Town have announced the re-signings of two key players for next season - prolific forward Liam Flanagan and captain Ryan Gothard.

Striker had another successful term in 2019/20, reaching and surpassing 100 goals for Selby to write his name into the club's record books as one of their all-time leading goal-scorers.

Manager Christian Fox expressed his delight at being able to keep his star striker for another season.

Fox told the club's website: “I am delighted that Liam has decided to commit to Selby Town FC for next season.

"He’s been brilliant for us since we came in and he’s grown as a player and as a person on and off the pitch.

"He has had offers from other clubs like you’d expect but he wants to return to the club as he knows he is very well thought of by the management team and committee, and the fans love him.

"It’s sometimes easy to take things for granted and not appreciate what you already have sometimes, but in Liam, we know we have a top quality striker.

"We have also had commitments from a number of other key players from last season and we are speaking to other players who we believe will be very exciting players for the club.“

Also retained for 2020/21 is captain and fans' favourite Ryan Gothard.

Fox said: “Ryan is another important signing for us for next season.

"He’s been with us since we first came in and he’s a player who is respected and well thought of by his fellow players, the management team and the supporters.

"He’s been the club captain for the last three seasons and will carry on in that role again.”
