THE DEADLINE for entries for a new award to recognise Ryedale’s young champions is tomorrow (Friday)

Malton and Norton Rotary Club is looking for nominations of youngsters who have shown great initiative during the coronavirus pandemic to support the local community.

Rotary member Bob Watmore said: “During the month of May the activity of young people has been celebrated across the UK by the Rotary organisation.

“Malton and Norton Rotary is very happy to join in with this focus, and to help celebrate the young people of our community that have done remarkable things in these unprecedented times.

“Maybe they have helped locally, taken their own initiative to raise money, or just responded well to the difficult circumstances.”

Bob said there were two age categories in the Rotary Young Champions - up to 14 years and 15 to 18 years.

“From the nominations, Malton and Norton Rotary will select the winners who will receive a sum of money to donate to an organisation of their choice, a voucher for themselves and a Certificate of Recognition,” he added.

“Let’s all take this opportunity to give young people who are doing amazing things the recognition they deserve.”

Nominations should be submitted by 10pm on Friday, June 4, by email to mandnrotarysec@gmail.com or post to Gazette & Herald, 22 Yorkersgate, Malton, YO17 7AB.

Please provide your name, contact number, name(s) of young person, their age and up to 150 words on what they have done and how have they benefited.

Submissions written from the young people themselves are also welcome with a suitable adult’s contact details.

The selection of award winners will be completed by June 11by independent judges and published in the Gazette & Herald.
