KIRKBYMOORSIDE Town Council has presented its annual community award.

Each May, at the annual town meeting in Kirkbymoorside, the Community Award is presented to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the community.

Town mayor Cllr Nick Holroyd said: “Whilst the coronavirus situation has delayed presentation of the award, Kirkbymoorside Town Council is delighted to congratulate this year’s recipients, Chris and John Simmonds, for their involvement with the Kirkby Fruit Project.”

The Kirkby Fruit Project started in 2012, to pick and distribute surplus apples in the local area to help prevent them being wasted.

The project is run entirely by volunteers with profits from the sales of our produce going to local community groups, to help them provide equipment or activities they might not be able to fund for themselves.
