A RANGE of affordable housing is on offer to Ryedale residents, thanks to a partnership between Ryedale District Council (RDC) and Broadacres Housing Association.

The 56 new homes are available for rent, or to buy, for people who have lived or worked in Ryedale for the past three years and who are struggling to access the local market.

The properties comprise of one, two and three-bedroom houses, as well as two-bedroom bungalows, and are expected to be available in the summer.

The new homes, located in Rainbow Lane, Malton, can be bought through the shared ownership scheme, or they can be rented through Broadacres Housing Association.

Cllr Keane Duncan, leader of RDC, said: “High house prices and high private rents have meant that there’s a huge demand for affordable housing in our district. That’s why affordable housing is one of the council’s priorities. We’re delighted to work with Broadacre Housing Association to provide these much-needed low-cost homes for rent and sale. This is a positive step forward, especially in these difficult times.”

Maria Baker, sales and marketing manager at Broadacres Housing Association, said: “Thanks to shared ownership, buying your own home enables local people to purchase a new home and stay in their local area, giving access to affordable homes in a market that has high house prices. You can purchase from as little as 25 per cent with an affordable rental, deposits range from five per cent to 10 per cent of the share purchased value, subject to status.”

Shared ownership is an option for people who would like to buy their own home, but are struggling to access the property market due to high house prices. The scheme enables local households to buy a share of a newly built home and pay rent on the remaining share.

Application forms for shared ownership are available through the Broadacres Housing Association website broadacres.org.uk/find-a-home/

For those interested in renting, should register on the North Yorkshire Home Choice website northyorkshirehomechoice.org.uk
