A TEENAGER has been spending her lockdown time helping to pick up litter near her home.

Anja Plews-Hardwick was in the middle of studying for her GCSEs at Norton College when schools were closed due to the coronavirus.

The 16-year-old started going for a daily walk around the Kirkbymoorside area where she lives, picking up litter as she went.

Her mum Anna Plews said: “She was coming back with so much that I phoned the council and they provided her with litter pickers and bags.

“She had been doing it every day now for the last couple of weeks in different areas and I have also driven her to other villages.”

Anna said they were both concerned about the amount of litter that was being left.

“We can pick litter up in one place and the next day there is more.It is allsorts of things including cans and bottles,” she said.

“It is a shame we have to do this, People should stake their litter home.”
