APPLETON-LE-MOORS

Support group - The group had its second formal meeting this being achieved using “Zoom” to comply with social distancing. A Community Facebook page is now operating with 39 members and the group email system is also working well. The 11 properties not covered by either system are having information hand delivered. At present all area that have been flagged as possibly needing volunteer support have been covered. Entertainment over the Easter period is being planned in the shape of various quizzes with virtual Easter Bonnet, Painted Eggs and Egg Hunt Competitions.

BROMPTON-BY-SAWDON

Coronavirus support - The support scheme has been successfully set up by James Peacock and Sheri-Leigh Miles under the auspices of the parish council and a leaflet with details has now been circulated to all residents in both Brompton and Sawdon. A great volunteer response in the village means that anyone who needs help with shopping, prescription collection or a chat over the telephone in the coming weeks will get it. Hunters of Helmsley - Shop open Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm, Saturday 8am to 2pm, closed Sunday. Also offering delivery within Helmsley or the outlying villages to those self isolating. CostCutter - The team at Helmsley’s CostCutter are offering a 8:30am to 9:30am Tuesday to Saturday for over 70’s and at risk groups shopping only.The Post Office and food store will be open to them during this period, for their usual banking, PO services and food shopping.

Gepettos restaurant - Gepettos is closed but offering a special Helmsley Saturday Night Takeaway. They are delivering a free hot meal to Helmsley residents who are elderly/vulnerable or isolated. Meals will be delivered from 5pm to 7pm with full government advice on handling takeaways inside the bag. The meals will be left on the doorstep, with a knock on the door and checking from a distance that they’re safely received. The restaurant would also like people to nominate NHS workers living in Helmsley for a surprise take out as a thank you for all they do. A few will be chosen each week. Homeworks (independent hardware shop) - Currently open three days a week - Monday 9am to 1pm, Wednesday 9am to 3pm and Friday 9am to 3pm. They will serve from the door, not allowing people into the shop, thus avoiding too much danger to staff. It would be helpful if customers took a list of their requirements with them, as no browsing will be allowed for the foreseeable future.

St Hilda’s Church – In accordance with Government regulations, all services, gatherings and activities at the church are cancelled for the foreseeable future. Regrettably this applies to the History Talk which was to be held in the village hall on April 3 and also the evening with Adam Collier and his Yorkshire Dialect on April 17. Methodist News - Following the guidance of the Methodist Church Sherburn Methodist Chapel is closed until further notice. Ryedale Covid-19 Help Network - A leaflet delivered by a 6ft bunny rabbit raised a smile, as well as giving us the name and phone number of our local coordinator for Sherburn Amber on 07886 897646. Local businesses are also helping wonderfully delivering where necessary. Thank you all for your hard work.

Church services - For the Churches in the Parish of West Buckrose on Sunday mornings, Rev Stephen Walker plans to go into the churches that would normally be holding services by himself and pray for the villages. When he does that he will ring the bell (where possible) as an invitation for parishioners and others to pause and pray at home. He plans to do this at approximately 9.30am and 10.15am. Church services across Ryedale are also being held online and Facebook.
