A PICKERING care home has clocked up an triple milestone with three of its residents now in the 100 club.

At the Alba Rose care home, Mary Plowman recently celebrated her 100th birthday with a family get-together.

Mary joined fellow residents Ivy Hudson 102, and Alice Collinson, 100, in a very exclusive club at the home, which is part of the Saint Cecilia’s Care Group.

Cherie Allardice, a manager at the home, said: “We were delighted to share in Mary’s 100th birthday celebrations and are very honoured to have our own hundred club with three lovely members.”

Mary has lived at Alba Rose for two and a half years. She was born near Yedingham and fondly remembers her grandad taking her to school in his pony and trap when the river flooded.

She had five siblings and remembers helping her mother on the farm with the household tasks, including baking and cooking.

Mary qualified as a nurse in 1944 and went on to be a dental nurse and then an orthopaedic nurse.

After the war she met Wilf, who became her husband.

They were married for 52 years and had two children.

Ivy and her husband Neil moved to Pickering in 1978 when he retired as manager of Midland Bank in Morley.

Both played bridge at Pickering Bridge Club, helped at the Beck Isle Museum, Ivy joined the Pickering Ladies Luncheon Club and they set up a fundraising group for Yorkshire Cancer Research. They enjoyed gardening, walking and playing golf at Kirkbymoorside Golf Club. When Neil died in 2013, Ivy moved to Alba Rose.

Alice has lived at Alba Rose for almost five years. She was born and grew up in West Yorkshire, near Bradford. After school Alice was a GP telephonist.

She met her husband Harry at chapel and they were married for 56 years.

Latterly, Alice worked with her husband in their butcher’s shop in Farsley, Pudsey. Alice and Harry moved to Pickering when Harry retired in the 1980s.

Alice was a keen bowls player playing at Thornton Dale Club and a founder member of the Thornton Dale Ukulele group. Alice likes to read especially Joanna Trollope and Danielle Steele. Alice says she is very fortunate in having good health and recommends activities and interests to keep you going.

Saint Cecilia’s Care Group has five care centres including Alba Rose which provides care for up to 22 older people in Pickering.
