FROM artisan glass-makers, to award-winning textile artist – there are wide range of up-and-coming exhibitions at the National Park gallery

With an exciting and vibrant series of exhibitions set to come to the beautiful Inspired by…gallery near Danby, art lovers are being given the opportunity to catch a first glimpse of some of the celebrated pieces soon to be on show.

From the likes of acclaimed landscape painter Len Tabner, to esteemed textile artist Amanda Cobbett, to the inaugural winner of the North York Moors National Park Art Award Ian McCulley – the ‘A First Glimpse’ exhibition, which will be officially launched on February 15, will give visitors a taste for what is to come for 2020.

Sally Ann Smith, Inspired by… gallery curator, said: “We offer visitors the rare opportunity to experience internationally acclaimed art surrounded by stunning moorland and rolling hills.

“This year’s season will be filled with dramatic oil paintings, colourful textiles, stunning blown glassware and plenty more making our charming gallery an irresistible destination to retreat and experience some wonderful pieces of art.”

The exhibition will also include work from artisan glassmakers Stephen Gillies and Kate Jones, who operates from their studio in the village of Rosedale Abbey.

The pair have become known for developing a unique aesthetic that draws inspiration from the elemental beauty of the North York Moors.

Kate said: “As we celebrate our 25th year making glass within the North York Moors, we are delighted to be exhibiting inside a gallery that is set in a landscape which directly inspires our work. Our October exhibition ‘A Portrait of Place’ will explore the depth and breadth of this landscape, the geology, rivers systems and the marks left by management practices of the current custodians of the land.

“Just as changing light illuminates the landscape, light is integral to our work, animating our glass, revealing layers of colours and engraving. The ‘A First Glimpse’ exhibition does just that, allows visitors an introduction to the depth and breadth of the work to come in 2020.”

The exhibition will be launched on February 15 where there will be a 12 noon – 12.30pm private view for supporters of the gallery followed be a 1pm - 3pm preview for the public.

The exhibition will then remain open daily from 10.30am until 4pm until 23 March. Entry is free.
