A MULTI-MILLION pound scheme to stabilise the cliffs behind Scarborough’s Spa complex is set to finish this month.
Contractor Balfour Beatty has confirmed that the £16 million works to the South Bay cliffs, which started in May 2018, will finish in February, slightly behind schedule.
In a newsletter sent to residents in the area, the Scarborough Council-appointed firm said: “Works are nearly complete on the Scarborough Spa Slope Stabilisation Scheme. The Esplanade was re-opened ahead of programme before Christmas and the cliff will be re-opened this month.
“Since the last [update], we have been busy placing the remaining topsoil and seed on the cliff, laying the remaining drainage, installing new street lighting, surfacing footpaths, finishing building walls, erecting new fencing and refitting benches on The Esplanade.”
The scheme, which will protect the iconic Spa complex and some 380 homes on the cliff above it had been due to finish in November.
