A NEW music venue with an aircraft theme has taken off in Ryedale.

The Cockpit, located in the Black Swan in Pickering, is now hosting an array of musical, comedy and theatrical events twice a month – with more events booked throughout 2020.

The venue wants to attract both local and international acts, and people can hire the venue for anything from weddings to intimate gigs.

The Cockpit is the brainchild of musical coordinator Dave Crabtree and Anna Wrench, the Black Swan’s head of marketing, who have designed the space into an aircraft-themed cocktail bar with recycled aircraft seating from the 1990s.

“We encourage every form of music, from international bands to Ryedale performers,” said Anna.

“Anyone interested in hiring out the space, or performing, is more than welcome to contact us – nothing is off the table.

“Seating up to 30 people, the Cockpit is an intimate space with recycled décor and perfect for every music fans.”

Performances in the Cockpit are currently twice a month on a Friday or Saturday, with the next performance featuring Trevor Sewell on Friday, February 7, from 7.30pm.

Future performances include Claude Bourbon and Ben Walker in March, alongside Bram Taylor and Nels Andrews in April.

“Music always keeps me busy, from performing in different countries to recording, but I’m really excited to see where this project goes in the future,” added Dave, who started playing the guitar at 11 years old.

“Where else can you sit in an airplane seat with your favourite drink listening to some of the finest performers on the UK circuit?”
