TWO people were taken to hospital after their car came off the road and crashed into trees.

Emergency services were called to the single-vehicle accident the northbound carriageway of the A19 near Mount Grace Priory on Saturday at about 12.50pm.

Paramedics treated the occupants of a blue Vauxhall Adam, a man and a woman, at the scene. An air ambulance was called to assist which required both north and southbound carriageways to be closed for a short period of time.

The man and woman were taken by land ambulance to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. Their injuries are described as none life-threatening.

The Highways Agency managed diversions and the northbound carriageway was fully open by 3.50pm.
