EMERGENCY services were called to Snainton at 5.07pm yesterday (Wednesday) after a collision involving a silver Vauxhall Combo van and an 11-year-old boy.

A spokeperson for North Yorkshire Police, said: "It appears that the boy stepped from the pavement in front of the slow-moving vehicle. He hit his head on the bonnet and then landed on the floor. He suffered a serious but not believed to be life-threatening head injury.

"The boy was taken by air ambulance to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. He was later transferred to Newcastle RVI where he is being kept under observation as a precaution."

The spokesperson added: "The boy is expected to make a full recover in time. The driver of the van, a 53-year-old man from Thornton-le-Dale, was not injured."

Local diversions were put in place while the emergency services worked at the scene. The road re-opened at 6.21pm.
