THIS week’s seasonal photographs have been provided by the Woodham Stone Collection.
Candles like those in the photo were given as Christmas gifts to the customers of Taylor’s grocer shop in Castlegate and also by other traders in Malton in the 1800s and early 1900s.
The Buckrose Hotel and the grocers shop at number three Commercial Street in Norton were built by Henry Searle prior to 1901.
Number three is now the Malton and Norton Heritage Centre that will be opening next year sometime.
The Christmas card to Mr and Mrs Searle was sent to them from Rose’s Brewery Malton.
