A MOTORIST has died in a crash with a lorry on the A64.

North Yorkshire Police said the man was driving a grey Audi which was travelling towards Scarborough when it collided with an AA recovery truck travelling in the opposite direction.

The accident happened on the York-Scarborough road between the Staxton and Seamer roundabouts.

"Sadly the driver of the Audi, a man in his 60s from Lincoln, died at the scene of the collision," said a force spokesperson.

"The driver of the breakdown truck was uninjured."

The spokesperson said that anyone who saw either of the vehicles before the collision, or who witnessed the actual collision, was being asked to contact police, including anyone with any dash-cam footage of the incident or the vehicles prior to the crash.

Witnesses should phone 101 and pass information for the Major Collision Investigation Unit or email MCIT@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk, quoting reference number 12190229658.

The spokesperson said the road was closed to allow emergency services to attend to the collision and allow collision investigators to examine the scene but reopened at 5.30pm
