FAMILY-run Cedarbarn farm shop has won Best Independent Retailer at the Deliciouslyorkshire awards.

Cedarbarn, near Pickering, is run by husband and wife team Karl and Mandy Avison, along with their daughter Chloe and General Manager Alison Riley with the aim to bring top-quality, fresh food with impeccable provenance to their customers.

Mandy said, “We’re so proud of our team here.

“It’s the friendliness and enthusiasm of our staff that makes Cedarbarn special, their commitment and dedication to great food and service is remarkable. It’s wonderful to celebrate this win with the team.”

“Last year we expanded the farm shop and café considerably to improve our offering.”

Mandy said: “Extending the sales area has given us the space to showcase more of our own produce and with the new production kitchen the opportunity to increase our range of ready meals, baking and home cooked meals for the cafe.

“Winning a Deliciouslyorkshire award is really the icing in the cake for us. It’s recognition that our investment, hard work and effort is recognized and appreciated.”

Established on a family farm, Cedarbarn began as a small pick-your-own strawberries operation, developing steadily into a farm shop and local community hub.

Experienced farmer, Karl grows acres of seasonal fruit and vegetables and along with neighbour David Beal rears the Aberdeen Angus beef and Charolais Cross lamb for the Farm Shop & Cafe.

Mandy added: “We’re really delighted to win the Deliciouslyorkshire award, we’ve been long-time champions of Yorkshire food and drink and it is truly a delicious county to be part of.”

The Deliciouslyorkshire judge said: “I’m always drawn to the local product section in any business, however, I have never visited a shop so thoroughly committed to offering local produce.

“Not only do Cedarbarn offer the farm’s own home-grown meat and the usual fruit and vegetables but they also stock a wide variety of local beverages and even local tea.”
